Kentucky State Police released body worn footage obtained from a critical incident that occurred on October 26th, 2021, involving the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department and an armed suspect, identified as Ivan Foster.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., Officers were dispatched to the Whitney Apartments located on River Bend Drive after a 9-1-1 caller stated Mr. Foster was causing a domestic dispute and threatening to utilize a firearm. Upon arriving, Officers were given permission to enter the home to communicate with Mr. Foster, who at the time was refusing to leave the home.
As displayed in the body worn camera footage, officers began questioning Mr. Foster regarding the firearm, however he denied to have possession of any weapons. While officers searched the room, Mr. Foster was continuously commanded to stop reaching and to stop searching through his belongings. After ignoring these commands countless times, Mr. Foster ultimately reached for a firearm, hidden within the pile of clothes and attempted to shoot the officer.
The officer closest to Mr. Foster attempted to disarm him, however was unsuccessful. Mr. Foster managed to discharge a single round, striking the officers radio located on his hip. As the struggle continued, Mr. Foster can be heard making threatening comments toward the officer. In response, an additional officer approached the two, fired multiple shots, and fatally wounded Mr. Foster.
At this time, this incident is still under investigation. The police officer who discharged his firearm was placed on administrative leave.
