A recent incident that happened on October 18th, 2021, left one suspect dead after officers responded to a domestic dispute call.
Two days prior, on October 16th, 2021, Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department received reports of 30-year-old Deandre Johnson, threatening a female victims life after he held a gun to her head. During an investigation, officers were able to locate a handgun used during the assault and associated to Johnson, however Johnson’s location at the time was unknown.
Moving forward to October 18th, 2021, officers were dispatched to an apartment at approximately 4 p.m., to serve Johnson with a protective order against the female victim. As indicated by the body worn footage, officers determined an arrest to be made based on probable cause on the prior reporting.
Upon their arrival, Johnson began acting aggressive towards the officers, where a physical struggle began taking place. During the physical altercation, the officers body worn camera became deactivated, but reactivated shortly after. Based upon initial interviews and body worn footage from additional responding officers, Johnson had gained possession of an officers service weapon moments prior to the shooting. Officers began providing medical aid to Johnson, however his injuries proved to be fatal.
Since the incident, the officer who discharged his firearm has been placed on administrative leave, awaiting the outcome of the department’s internal investigation. Police have not yet identified the officer involved.
