Surveillance cameras and a bystanders cellphone captured the moments police shot and killed a 48-year-old Army veteran, after he brutally assaulted and stabbed a 78-year-old woman.
At around 4:05 p.m., on January the 10th, deputies from Altadena County were flagged down by a pedestrian near Figueroa Drive and Lincoln Avenue. Deputies soon made contact with the suspect, who was later identified as Allen Mirzayan, still located near the location of the stabbing. Mirzayan was reportedly kicking cars as they passed by and holding a knife to his throat when deputies arrived.
Two additional deputies attempted to detain Mirzayan utilizing less lethal measures, however they were unsuccessful. Deputies continued commanding Mirzayan to drop the knife, but he ignored commands and closed the distance between himself and the deputies. In response, a deputy fired multiple shots, striking Mirzayan.
Deputies attempted CPR on Mirzayan before L.A. County Fire Department paramedics arrived, however he was pronounced deceased at scene. As for the 78-year-old woman, she was transported to an area hospital in stable condition with a broken hip and stab wounds to her buttocks.
