This footage, provided by the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) shows some of their troops engaged in a firefight against the Myanmar military. Some of the fighting happens at very close ranges, and in a departure from most disseminated Anti-Junta media, a Myanmar Army KIA is shown at several points, up close and uncensored. Viewer discretion is advised. As has been mentioned before, the KNDF is a military organization made up of Karenni tribespeople; the Karenni being an ethnic minority in Myanmar. In addition to ousting the Junta overall, the KNDF is the armed wing of a struggle to establish more rights and protections for the Karenni people. Looking at the panoply of weapons and protective gear on display here, it’s hard to believe that scarcely two years ago, People’s Defense Forces like this one were literally using black powder weapons and slam-bang shotguns. Through home production, donations and the black market, it’s becoming not uncommon to see troops who were once the ragtag underdogs now being better equipped than their professional military counterparts. Here, we see a variety of rifles, grenades and launchers being used to push Myanmar Army elements out of a cemetery. An iconic, eerie place to do battle.
