Officers from the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) were involved in a fatal officer involved shooting that occurred on August 26th, 2021, after an armed suspect led police on a high-speed chase through a small urban area.
At around 6:50 p.m., MPD officers observed a reckless driver near 39th and North, where perusing officer attempted a traffic stop. As shown in the footage, the suspect refused to comply, where shortly after making contact with the man, he led multiple units on a dangerous, high-speed chase through Northern Milwaukee. After a lengthy chase, it eventually concluded after the male suspect lost control of his car and crashed on 41st and Hadley.
Upon approaching the wreckage, officers observed the man exiting his vehicle, armed with a handgun. While pursuing the suspect through a small alleyway, the officer continued providing verbal commands to the suspect to stop and to drop his weapon. The suspect continued to ignore these commands. After closing the distance on the suspect, he presented his firearm and pointed it directly at the officer, further causing an officer involved shooting.
After the short engagement, the suspect fled the alley and began walking down the 2800 block of North 41st street. With multiple officers now trailing, the suspect turned and faced officers with his weapon, one last time. As he pointed his firearm at responding officers, one officer took five shots, critically wounding the suspect. The suspect was provided medical aid on the scene, until medical transport arrived. Upon arriving at the hospital, the suspect had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
No officers of innocent bystanders were injured during this incident.
