Deputies from Brevard Sheriff's Office find themselves in a life or death gun battle after an attacker steps out of a vehicle they have stopped and immediately opens fire on them at close range.

In a traffic-stop gone wrong, two deputies from the Brevard Sheriff's Office in Florida find themselves in a life or death gun battle against a career criminal armed with a rifle. In the vicinity of the gun-fight were a total of three civilians, one of which was just a 2-month-old baby that was in the backseat of the vehicle with the shooter, 38-year-old Paris Wilder.

During the stop, you can hear Deputy Brian Potter speaking with Wilder in the backseat of the vehicle. They appear to be having a casual enough conversation where Potter even mentions having a baby at home himself. With a complete disregard for the safety of the 2-month-old in the backseat of the vehicle himself, Wilder exits the vehicle the moment Deputy Potter gives him an opportunity and starts firing at the deputy with the other two civilians still in the line of fire. Potter responds by attempting to create space as he draws his service pistol and maneuvers to cover. Potter is shot during this initial engagement, so is Wilder.

Both civilians immediately clear the line of fire, and the second deputy, Deputy Tyler Thoman, also draws his pistol and maneuvers behind Potter's patrol car to put himself into a position of cover. Wilder pursues Potters around the back of the other police cruiser, as Potters gets to another position and fires several shots at where he believes Wilder is. Wilder then strikes Potters in the back of the head and takes him to the ground, where he continues to smash him in the head and face with the rifle. Thoman then opens fire on Wilder, killing him in a barrage of gunfire.

Deputy Potter was transported to a nearby medical facility where he was treated for a gunshot wound, multiple head lacerations, a concussion, and fractures in his face. Both deputies are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
