(NSFW) Exonerated Prisoner Killed In Traffic Stop, GA

Viewer's discretion advised: this dashcam footage (released 10/18/23) depicts the traffic stop in Camden County, GA wherein Leonard Cure is shot and killed. Cure was a subject of notoriety in 2020 when he was exonerated 16 years after being imprisoned for a robbery he did not commit.

Cure's unfortunate history with the justice system is already beginning to influence the narrative of events in nationwide media outlets, despite Cure's behavior as filmed. However, sad an end to Cure's story this may be, the events that transpire in the recording reflect a justified use of force. At 01:38, Cure begins swinging his arms in a dedicated attempt to break the TASER leads before engaging in physical combat with the officer. He visibly grabs at the officer's throat and tries to overpower him. The officer even tries a second form of less-than-lethal force in deploying his baton, but Cure prevents him from swinging. In self-defense, the officer draws and shoots him at 02:03.
