(NSFW) Controversial: Texas Cop Gives Vape Shop Bandit The Smoke

This agency-provided bodycam footage (augmented with security footage from a robbed business) shows a Fort Worth, TX officer chasing 37-year-old Walker Cadd in response to his robbing a local vape shop. Cadd is shot during the incident, and although he survives, viewer discretion is advised.

The video begins with security footage of Cadd having broken into the store with a crowbar and stealing several items. Despite this having occured at around 0400, an employee can be seen in the back corner of the shop. Fort Worth police arrive moments later, and the officer sees Cadd fleeing via a creek bed and jumping a fence into a residential backyard.

At 01:04, the officer finds the suspect hiding in a shed. Cadd refuses to comply with commands to show his hands. The officer becomes visibly and audibly nervous as Cadd advances to within a few feet of him while he is requesting backup. He continues to advance on the officer, who retreats out of the shed. At this point, things become controversial. Cadd moves close enough to the officer to make physical contact, which also places him adjacent to a large gap in the fence. At this point, to prevent him from fleeing, the officer grabs Cadd with his left hand, whereupon Cadd is alleged to have reached for the officer's gun, prompting him to fire. This is difficult to ascertain in the footage, and could easily have been sympathetic response of the trigger finger in a high-stress situation. The officer fired twice, hitting the suspect in the leg once. Regardless of what actually happened, Cadd was charged with attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer, as well as the original theft, and was treated at an area hospital.
