Multiple body camera angles from a March 2022 incident, shows the moments Houston Police Officers engaged a male subject that opened fire against law enforcement officers during a dangerous, high-speed chase.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., on February the 27th, HPD officers responded to a carjacking incident in the Southwest area of Houston. Official police reports indicate that an unidentified male held a driver at gunpoint, stole their car, and fled the scene. Shortly after the carjacking incident occurred, HPD officers successfully located the stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts, additional units from the Northeast patrol joined the pursuit. Several minutes later, the stolen vehicle crawled to a stop, where the suspect then exited the vehicle in the 7800 block of Tidwell Road, where a foot chase ensued. During the foot chase, the suspect turned and shot at multiple pursuing officers. In response, HPD officers returned fire with service rifles and handguns, striking the suspect several times.
The suspect was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition. Reports indicate that the suspect did not recover from his injuries and was pronounced deceased several days later. The male subject was later identified as 24-year-old Marcelo Alfredo Suarez.
