(NSFW) California Cop Pops Fleeing Carjacker

This bodycam footage, provided by the police in Riverside, California, shows their officers interdicting a suspected stolen vehicle. When the driver exits the car, tosses a pistol over a fence and attempts to climb over after it, one of the officers shoots him down, preventing him from getting to the weapon. Although the suspect survives the shooting, viewer discretion is advised.

The police identify the stolen vehicle and follow it to an apartment complex, where the driver is met with a dead-end. The driver, later identified as known gang member Eddie Madrigal, 42, exits the vehicle at 0:54, with a pistol in hand. At the time of this video, Madrigal was out on parole for armed robbery. The vehicle rolls into the fence as Madrigal throws the handgun over it. He attempts to climb the fence, but one of the officers, assigned to the ironically named Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Team, shoots him in the back four times. Madrigal drops to the ground.

Madrigal received immediate medical care and was transported to an area hospital, whereupon he was treated and held for transport to a detention facility with medical capabilities. The pistol Madrigal is seen tossing was revealed to be a .22 with 10 rounds. While there was a passenger in the stolen vehicle, the police did not have reason to suspect he was involved with the carjacking.
