This combination of security camera and bodycam footage, provided by Detroit PD, shows officers confronting and chasing a minor (identity withheld) who is armed with a handgun. When the suspect is spotted with the gun in his hand, a Detroit officer shoots him in the leg, incapacitating him. Viewer discretion is advised.
Footage begins with a security camera feed, which shows police arriving on-scene to make contact with the suspect. When they stop alongside him, the suspect flees.
At 0:34, we see the chase from the perspective of one of the officers’ bodycams. At 0:54, he fires two rounds, hitting the suspect in the leg and dropping him. Because the actions which caused the officer to fire are difficult to see, the incident is shown again at 01:13, with compensation added for the motion in the video. A handgun is very briefly visible in the suspect’s hand before the officer fires. After the officer effects the arrest and renders aid to the suspect, a handgun is found a short distance away.
The suspect was taken to an area hospital and treated for injuries, and upon his release from care was charged with receiving and concealing a firearm.
