The South African "Balls-of-Steel" cash-in-transit truck driver that became an international phenomenon, Leo Prinsloo, delivers a compelling interview in which a new video angle and additional footage of the event is provided.
Prinsloo uses the opportunity to inform viewers of just how horrible violent crime is in South Africa. He explains how this viral video is not an isolated incident, and that criminal gangs are carrying out these heists, robberies, and murders on a daily basis. He discusses how just days after his ordeal, a different courier doing a similar operation was killed during an equally similar heist attempt.
According to Prinsloo, these robbery attempts are so frequent and involve hundreds of shots fired each time that the only term to describe these areas of South Africa is as a "war zone." Leo isn't being dramatic. In fact, the US State Department has designated Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban as being critical-threat locations for crime directed at or affecting official U.S. government interests.
Violent crime in South Africa includes daily occurrences of murder, rape, armed robbery, carjacking, home invasion, property theft, smash and grab, and ATM robbery. Armed robbery is the most prevalent major crime in South Africa, carried out by organized gangs using firearms and knives.
Another point of interest is when Prinsloo and his interviewer talk about the contrast in how many international people were shocked to find out about the regularity in which these crimes are being committed, while many locals have become so numbed or accustomed to it, that it's just another day in South Africa to them.
