Another, higher quality video angle has surfaced showing the attempted assassination of Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico on May 15, 2024.

In this clip you can actually see the would-be hitman reach over a barrier and begin firing a pistol at close range. Fico can be seen falling to the ground as his security entourage swarms the shooter. Fico was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries but is now expected to survive.

Reuters, citing Slovak news media, suggested the shooter is a 71-year-old former security guard at a shopping mall and a published author of poetry. His name or motivations haven't been released.

Fico has drawn ire from fellow Europeans for criticizing Western support for Ukraine and blaming Ukraine for the Russian invasion. Additionally, Fico had just formally rejected the World Health Organization (WHO) Pandemic Accord the day prior to the assassination attempt.
