Intense helmet cam video out of Afghanistan captures the moment a US armored combat vehicle is targeted by an improvised explosive device, resulting in the vehicle being flipped onto its side.
Reportedly, the occupants of the vehicle survived and recovered from their injuries, as the vehicle's armor took the brunt of the blast. At the end of the video, indigenous personnel, likely Afghan National Army soldiers, can be seen moving in to assist. The turret gunner would have been strapped into the cupola with a harness to keep him from being ejected, and wouldn't be able to unstrap himself without assistance in this position.
Afghanistan is an IED nightmare as there are few paved surfaces, which allows insurgents to bury massive devices directly under the path of travel, making them significantly more effective than those hidden along the roadsides.
