Footage recorded in Syria captures the moment an IED team initiates an IED attack against a piece of regime armor about to maneuver across a bridge.
When I first turned this video on, I was expecting to see the tank hit on the bridge, followed by the collapse of the bridge on top of the tank. To my surprise, the IED was actually large enough to actually fully destroy the piece of armor as it slow rolled up to the bridge. I was even more surprised when the civilian vehicle just drove past the burning armor like this is a regular Sunday morning drive.
If you look off to the side of the tank you can see a flag hanging. This is a fairly common tactic in the world of improvised explosive devices. The triggerman will sit in place with a radio and call out to a second person who will run out and put a stake in the road near the IED. From that position, the triggerman uses the stake as an aiming device to ensure he doesn't trigger the IED too early or too late.
