A soldier waiting for a controlled detonation to go off manages to absolutely shatter the microphone on his camera. Don't worry, his tinnitus is certainly not service connected.
Headphones Warning!! What you're looking at here is the controlled detonation of a compound full of improvised explosives using 300 pounds of conventional explosives. For the uninitiated, a controlled detonation occurs when an explosive ordinance disposal team, or a group of engineers, decides a batch of explosives cannot or should not be used for sensitive site exploitation. Meaning, the explosives are a danger to the people in the area, and are not worth transporting or moving to another site where they can be exploited for intelligence. In some or most cases, a small portion of the homemade explosives are all that's required to gather intelligence, which means the rest of the explosive can be disposed of.
In order to dispose of the rest of the explosives, conventional explosives like C4 are strategically placed around the cache, and then detonated in a manner that will cause most of, or all of the enemy explosives to be rendered useless or destroyed. Mostly, this is caused through what is known as sympathetic detonation. A sympathetic detonation is caused when one explosive triggers other explosives to simultaneously combust with them, which is how you get explosions as big as the one captured in this video.
