Marines from 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, find themselves engaged in four hours of sustained combat against Taliban forces during Operation Apache Snow II near the Bari Gul Bazaar in Nad Ali Disctrict.
Operation Apache Snow II was designed to deny Taliban forces freedom of movement near the Bari Gul Bazaar in the Nad Ali District, which was inside of the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. Approximately 96 Marines, Sailors and Afghan National Army troops engaged the Taliban in the fourteen-hour-long operation, and throughout there was 4 hours of sustained combat.
The Bazaar was prominently used by the Taliban to gather and stockpile arms and ammunition which were used in the fight against coalition forces throughout the province. The operation was deemed a success at it's conclusion on Dec. 4, 2013.
