Marines Engage Taliban with Rockets After U-Shaped Ambush

Marines behind a piece of hard-cover struggle to maneuver on their enemy after the Taliban initiate a U-Shaped ambush on them. They return fire with small-arms and an M-72 LAW to gain fire superiority.

There's a common saying in the infantry that spans across every branch of the military. Fire without maneuver is a waste of ammunition, maneuver without fire is suicide. In this piece of combat footage, recorded by Marines near Nowzad, you see a platoon sized element of Marines establishing a base of fire, and furiously trying to find a way to maneuver directly into their enemy's ambush. At several points in this short video, you're going to hear the cameraman, who is most likely a senior team leader or a squad leader, trying to get permission from his platoon commander to maneuver on the enemy. That same platoon commander meanwhile is trying to coordinate a base of fire that will allow his Marines to maneuver.

The name of the game in this firefight is movement. Every infantryman's primary objective is to locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver. You're seeing that very statement personified in this video, unfortunately the video cuts just as the maneuver begins.
