One of the Marines who was present in Kabul when the suicide attack that killed 13 U.S. Service Members happened gives his eyewitness account of the events that unfolded that day.
While the conflict in Afghanistan has finally come to a complete end for American and other Coalition troops, the memories of the fighting there will be ringing in our memories forever. The last American casualties in the conflict happened outside of the Hamid Karzai International Airport as U.S. Marines, Soldiers, and Sailors from the United States tried to evacuate American Citizens, and Afghans with Special Immigrant Visas. The suicide attack that killed 11 U.S. Marines, 1 Navy Sailor, and 1 U.S. Solder has left many people asking questions, and while not all those questions can ever be fully answered, the survivors of that attack are starting to come forward with their story.
This interview, conducted by CBS Mornings, allows a Marine Corps Major to come forward and speak on some of the heroic actions he saw take place that day outside of HKIA. I won't fill this post with my opinions. I won't fill this post with a bunch of editorializations. Instead, I'll just let the interview and the Major speak for themselves. To the troops who were present at HKIA to take care of this situation, you have my eternal respect. You accomplished your mission the best you could, and no one can ever fault you for doing that.
