The fight for Mount Suribachi is something everyone has read about. Now, you can witness some of it through the viewport of a Sherman Tank as it was recorded by a Marine Combat Cameraman.
World War Two was an entirely different beast when it comes to war. Iraq and Afghanistan were child's play in comparison. This footage is a rare look into the uncommon valor that was a common virtue amongst United States Marines as they battled tooth and nail for every inch of Mount Suribachi to push the Japanese back.
It was said during this battle that the Marine Corps guaranteed their existence for another 500 years with this fight. At the conclusion of this specific gun battle, the Marines famously rose the American flag on top of Mount Suribachi, creating one of the most iconic images of the second World War.
