On September 17th, 2021, officers from the Chandler Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Hyatt Place Hotel, located near Chandler Village Drive and Chandler Boulevard.
As officers responded to the area, they were informed by the hotel staff that a female victim was seeking safety from her abusive boyfriend. The victim reportedly approached a hotel guest, asking if she could hide out in a room for a brief time.
While the officers secured the area of interest, the hotel manager made contact with them and provided further information regarding the male suspect, identified as Brandon Aldecoa, who had ran behind the hotel, desperately trying to evade police confrontation. Shortly after Aldecoa disappeared, officers located a truck associated with the suspect, parked in the hotel parking lot. As indicated by officer body worn camera footage, the officers began inspecting the truck for signs of Aldecoa.
During their search, officers began inspecting the bed of the truck, where a tonneau cover appeared to be tampered with. Upon further investigation, one officer spotted Aldecoa, armed with a hand gun in the bed of the truck. Aldecoa and the officers exchanged numerous rounds. Officers were able to neutralize Aldecoa. He was detained and transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
Aldecoa later admitted during police interviews that he fired the shots, but that he meant to fire in between the officers to scare them. He faces numerous charges, including aggravated assault, drug possession and resisting arrest.
