A massive blaze erupted along Russia's main gas-to-Europe export pipeline. The incident began as an explosion, near Kalinino in central Russia. At least three pipeline workers were reportedly killed in the blast.
Russian gas giant Gazprom claimed the damaged area has been bypassed and that fuel is flowing in full to its intended destination. They also claimed the fires had been extinguished, but local reports suggested firefighters couldn't get anywhere near the area due to the heat.
The Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhhorod pipeline brings natural gas from Russia's Siberian Urengoy gas field into Europe through Ukraine. The pipeline is partially owned and operated by Ukraine.
