This footage, released courtesy of the Las Vegas Metro PD, shows some of the room clearing and response to the active shooter earlier this month (December 2023). The officers shown are heavily occluded in order to protect their identities. This censorship appears to be hastily done in order to speed dissemination of this footage to news outlets. Apart from moving in stacks down the hallways and clearing students and faculty from the building, we see the officers struggling to kick a locked door. Security impeding response is a paradox that costs time, and therefore, potentially lives as well. In most cases, officers are trained and eager to go with what they have, but this rapidity sometimes hits roadblocks. Should breacher training be made as big a part of active shooter response as TCCC? This video makes for a powerful argument in that regard.
