Two patrolling LAPD officers intercept an armed murder suspect in Van Nuys, California.
The video begins from the perspective of the driver. At 0:19, the officers pull alongside the suspect, who is travelling on a bicycle, keeping him on their right side. The passenger officer makes contact, telling the suspect to get off the bicycle several times. The officers deduce that the suspect is possibly armed at 0:33. The suspect appears to double back, causing the officers to circle and turn around and follow. at 01:09, the driver uses the right side of the patrol car, specifically the passenger's mirror, to impact and slow the suspect. Note the unintentional discharge at 01:10 as the suspect appears to turn away to the right. The passenger warns the suspect to get off the bike again. At 01:16, the passenger advances on the suspect with his weapon drawn. As the suspect continues to evade, the driver doubles back to "secure the car." At 01:27, 8 shots are fired. Backup begins to arrive at 01:37 as the driver catches up to his partner, who is giving arrest commands to the suspect. The suspect is prone on the ground. At 01:52, the driver begins to direct a bystander out of his car and out of the line of fire. The passenger's bodycam reveals that the passenger office had his weapon drawn in the right hand and nightstick in his left during the initial chase and stop. The accidental discharge recorded earlier appears to have been the passenger's weapon as he exited the vehicle, as depicted at 03:35. Audio begins for the passenger's bodycam at 03:44, recording his verbal commands to the suspect. At 03:50, the suspect points his handgun at the passenger officer, who then opens fire. At 04:16 we see the primary officer to the right, directing the bystander as previously depicted. The remainder of the video shows enhanced footage of the shoot as well as the arrest procedure performed by a team of LAPD officers.
