Footage from Jan. 5, 2022 reportedly shows anti government protestors capturing and disarming Kazakh soldiers near Aktau.
Protests and riots broke out following a sharp increase in fuel prices in the oil-producing Central Asian country. The turmoil in Kazakhstan is especially violent in the capital city of Almaty, where police claim to have killed dozens of protestors, while at least 13 security forces have been killed, two of which were reportedly beheaded. Government forces have reportedly arrested over 2,000 protestors. Russia has deployed paratroopers to the nation to quell the riots in support of the Kazakh government, to which they are closely aligned.
