Video shows a group of foreign journalists coming under heavy artillery fire in Lysychansk, Luhansk while documenting their experiences of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

After doing some digging, I found the owner of the footage, Alex Chan Tsz Yuk, where he posted a long context analysis of the incident, and the resulting outcome. Be sure to go over and follow Alex on his journey through combat journalism.

"This is the video I shot using my GoPro mounting on my helmet, documenting what happened during a Russian artillery strike on our position at 15:40 in Lysychansk, Luhansk.

Me and @kurekaoru have originally planned to head into Severodonetsk through a bridge connecting Lysychansk and Severodonetsk, as we have been access the area two days ago, with connections, stories and military contacts inside.

We decided to turn back when we saw some burning vehicles thinking it might not be a good idea to continue heading in, we backed off and distanced from bridge and surrounding areas with the line of sight of Russian troops at least 500 meters, we along with our fixer Mykola was exchanging on ground information with two soldiers (which they believe they are safe either) while the strike hit us, the first strike is extremely precise as it hits several meters from Mykola, shrapnel hitting his right arm, injuring him. After we places ourselves in ditches for cover, just few seconds second hit, double tap and triple tap soon follows.

Then we sent Mykola and the soldier with injured in his left leg to the hospital, we have been trying to be with him as I think this is our responsibility, but the hospital now is completely block access as soon knowing we are journalists.

Now Mykola is recovering as he will be transferred to another hospital in safe areas for further treatment, and we will pull out to see if we can visit Mykola which is in recovery now. I suffered partial lost of hearing on my left ear, and with minor injuries, but I believed I can recover soon.

My friends in the Ukraine 🇺🇦 military stationed around that area, suggested it might have been an Russian army connection in the area and have been reporting on our location. (Which artillery strike normally can’t be that accurate without further impact adjustments, and we are 500-600 meters from the strike zone)

I feel terribly sorry and guilty as getting our fixer injured, we have wrong judgement and lack of experiences compared to other war correspondent colleagues, but I have tried my best on the ground trying to keep us alive, at the end we are reporting the news, we are not and we should not be the news."
