Israel launched its Arrow-3 ballistic missile air defense system to successfully shoot down incoming long range munitions over the Red Sea. The hostile weapons were likely fired by Iranian-backed Shia Houthi insurgents in Yemen.
Israel hosts one of the most complex air defense umbrellas in the world, but complex, coordinated rocket attacks carried out simultaneously by Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi rebels are intended to overwhelm the system and allow munitions to get through.
