GoPro footage released to Instagram by an international legion volunteer from New Zealand captures the dramatic moment a Ukrainian Soldier who was feared killed in a previous engagement is rescued from the basement of a building they were attacking.
According to the international legion volunteer who posted this footage, this video was recorded at the conclusion of a gunfight with Russian forces who were holding a building. As they made entry into the building they heard a voice from the basement yelling up to them "Ya Ukrayinets" (I'm Ukrainian). Unsure if the vocal message was a trap or not, they held off on throwing grenades and made entry into the basement to secure the individual who was calling out to them.
The man that they discovered was a friend of the New Zealander's who they all thought had been killed in an earlier engagement with Russian forces several months prior to this video. According to the Ukrainian, he had barely eaten in the last few months, and the Russians had forced him to drink anti-freeze for their entertainment.
