A mounted patrol manages to spot an RPG wielding insurgent just moments before the enemy fighter fires off a round. The insurgent then immediately retreats as the soldiers react to contact.
An overwhelming majority of the kinetic fighting in Iraq looked exactly like this. Bored Soldiers sitting at an intersection waiting for their patrol leader to give them the next task. Looking around, smoking and joking, then boom. Insurgents pops out from behind a wall in full view and shoot an RPG or burst of machinegun fire in the direction of the troops hoping to cause a casualty.
Following this, the troops react to contact by establishing fire superiority and maneuvering on the enemy. By the time they get to where the enemy is, he's either already dead or has managed to get away completely blending back into the crowd.
This is exactly why insurgents are hard to deal with.
