Older footage recorded during Operation Iraqi Freedom capture the moment an insurgent mortar team gets taken off the map by a predator missile strike.
Before al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Taliban figured out that we had assets in the air that could monitor their activities almost 24/7, there was this awkward period where they would constantly get themselves caught out in the open. This footage is part of that awkward period in the GWoT where the insurgencies hadn't quite figured out just how vulnerable they were yet.
Imagine being this guy. Grabs a mortar tube out of the cache, drives it out into the middle of nowhere, and uses it try and get some hits in on some patrolling American unit. Guy gets his rounds out, packs everything back up, and then starts heading home thinking his mission was accomplished and now he's safe. Next thing he knows, he no longer exists and there's about 50 Iraqi's trying to extinguish the fire that's engulfed his car.
