Indian Navy Rescues Crew Of Ship Attacked By Houthi Rebels

This footage, provided by the Indian Navy, showcases the response and rescue operations conducted by INS "Kolkata" to aid "MV True Confidence", a merchant ship which was struck by a Houthi anti-ship missile on 06 March 2024. The attack killed three crew and wounded a further four.

Although the Houthi claim is that they struck an American-owned ship, the MV True Confidence is registered out of Barbados by a Liberian owned shipping company, which is in turn, owned by a Greek organization. Furthermore, it was crewed mainly by Filipinos, making the rebels' stance on the incident utterly spurious.

The missile strike on True Confidence resulted in severe damage and a fire in the pilot house, causing the surviving crew to abandon ship. INS Kolkata responded to their distress about 55 NM from Aden, and began the rescue operations seen here, rescuing 21 crew members from rafts. The True Confidence crew was ultimately evacuated to Djibouti.

INS Kolkata is the lead ship in the Indian Navy's destroyer class of the same name. She was laid down in 2003 and launched three years later in 2006. Kolkata has been on anti-piracy patrols and operations since late 2023. Two days before the incident seen here, on 4 March 2023, Kolkata responded to a similiarly attacked vessel, MSC Sky II.
