p> This footage, provided by a Houthi media outlet, shows an alleged shootdown of an MQ9 Reaper drone, the latest of several since the Houthi campaign against international trade began in support of Hamas and the conflict in Gaza.
The shootdown occured on Friday, and represents the fifth known Reaper lost since the Houthi rebels took control of Northern Yemen in 2014. The downing of this MQ9 coincided with continued attacks against international shipping, but these have lessened in intensity and tempo amid ongoing US-led airstrikes in the region. Allegedly, a Panama-registered oil tanker was hit, but suffered light damage and was able to continue to its next port.
As the attacks against shipping have slackened, this downed MQ9 offers a significant win to the Houthis, as a Reaper carries a $30 Million price tag. Here is the footage from a previous shootdown, approximately two weeks ago.
