Houston Police Flawlessly Subdue Suspect Wielding Glass as Weapon

On May 11, 2022, members of the Houston Police Department conducted a health and wellness check on 37-year-old Christopher Figueroa that ended in the man being shot once and detained by the officers.

Nine minutes of body worn camera footage from the Houston Police Department shows responding officers doing everything in their power to de-escalate a situation with a man going through a serious mental health crisis. The individual, 37-year-old Christopher Figueroa, is essentially threatening to take his own life as officers from the HPD arrive on scene to conduct a health and wellness check. For several minutes, the officers do everything in their power to talk the man down.

In a heartbeat, the situation changes from the officers attempting to talk him down, to the officers being forced to use force to protect themselves from the charging Figueroa. During the initial charge at two of the officers, Figueroa is shot once by an officer's duty weapon, and simultaneously Taser. They then immediately go back into trying to talk Figueroa into surrendering.

During the second attempt at getting Figueroa to surrender, the officers switch which of them is holding a lethal force and less-lethal force option. As they maneuver towards him Figueroa again attempts to charge the officers, but is brought down without the use of lethal force by the two officers who easily overpower and detain him before providing him with life-saving-aid.

Shortly following the incident, Figueroa would be transported to a nearby medical facility and listed in stable condition. He is currently being charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a police officer in the 482nd State District Court.
