Hamas Targets Israeli Apache Helicopter With MANPADS

This footage, provided by a Hamas media outlet, shows their militants targeting an Israeli AH-64 Apache helicopter, known as Peten (Cobra) for the “A” model and Saraph (Venomous Winged Serpent) for the “D” model. They attempt to shoot the helicopter down with a SAM 7, but rather pointedly do not include footage of the helicopter actually being hit.

The SAM 7 is a ubiquitous piece of Warsaw pact hardware, also known as a Strela-2 or its NATO reporting name: SA-7 Grail. Although it has experienced historical problems with lethality, the Strela/Grail/SAM 7 has been used effectively all over the world against myriad aircraft, including, notably, civilian airliners in Africa throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

It’s objectively and honestly reasonable for Hamas to want to down Apaches by any means; they tend to earn bloody swathes of fearful respect everywhere they go. Here and here are some clips from the outset of the Israeli-Hamas conflict that show Apaches giving Hamas the absolute business.
