Fort Worth Police Shoot Man with Shotgun in Apartment Building

This is the full critical incident report provided by the Fort Worth Police Department on the officer involved shooting of a suicidal suspect armed with a shotgun in an apartment building.

On August 21, 2022, members of the Fort Worth Police Department were dispatched to an apartment building after a 9-1-1 call about a suicidal man armed with a shotgun who was threatening to take his own life. In total, four officers arrived on the scene at around 9:45 PM where they attempted to make contact with residents inside of the apartment. After knocking on the door and announcing their presence, one of the officers overheard someone inside of the apartment saying "Don't do it."

Shortly after overhearing the distressed person inside of the apartment, the officers made the decision to conduct a forced entry. Once inside of the apartment, they encountered the still unnamed suspect sitting in his bed with what appeared to be a rifle of some sort. Officers then attempted to get the man to drop the weapon and surrender.

The man refused to comply with officer commands however, and instead jumped out of the bed and got next to the wall looking like he was ready to turn the corner and fight the officers. One officer then discharged his service pistol to stop the threat.

Fort Worth Police then secured the suspect and provided him with life-saving aid until paramedics arrived on scene. The condition of the unknown individual is still not public knowledge, however no we do know that no officers were injured in the encounter.
