A female lawyer in Brazil managed to overpower and disarm an attacker armed with a pistol after he shot her multiple times in her law office.
The woman in this video, who is identified as 27-year-old Nayara Gomes, was shout three times by the attacker, Diego Dorado. In spite of being shot once in the chest, arm, and hand, she continued to fight with her assailant until she gained control of the pistol. She then proceeded to point the pistol at Dorado's head before changing her mind and throwing it down the stairs.
"I took the gun and pointed it at his forehead and didn't pull the trigger. I said: 'you're ruining your life', and threw the gun down the stairs. In my view, no one has the right to take anyone's life. Even in self-defense. I thought about his family and I didn't want to carry a death on my back, in my heart," Gomes told local reporters in January after the incident.
After this event took place, the man was taken into custody by local law enforcement and Gomes was provided with life-saving aid before being transported to nearby medical facility. At the hospital, she underwent reconstructive surgery to her hand, but at the time it was unclear if she would regain full function in the injured hand.
The attacker was charged with attempted murder, and possession of an illegal firearm. His motive for the attack was related to fees associated with work Gomes had done for the man.
