Body camera footage released by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, shows the moments Deputy Sherriff Gregorek risked his own life to save a dog trapped inside a burning vehicle.
On January 22nd, 2022, deputy Gregorek was dispatched to a reported car fire at approximately 4:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, deputy Gregorek observed a man near the smoking SUV, screaming for help and that his dog was trapped within the vehicle.
As shown in the body camera footage, deputy Gregorek jumped into action, smashing the windows of the vehicle, and attempting to locate the trapped dog. Shortly after the rear hatch window was smashed, the owner began providing verbal commands to the dog, where he was finally located. Putting himself at risk, deputy Gregorek reached into the vehicle, through heavy smoke and successfully rescued the dog.
During a later interview, deputy Gregorek stated, "I would've done - you know - the same thing whether it be baby, human, dog, cat. A life is a life."
