Denver Officer Shot 3-Times, Once In The Lung, During Ambush Attack (NSFW)

On May 20, 2021, Deputy Sheriff Michael Hutton from the Lincoln County Sheriff's office responded to a reported theft incident at a truck stop along I-70. At the beginning of the footage, Deputy Hutton is seen approaching an opened trailer along with the reporting individual.

As the two approach the trailer, Deputy Hutton flashes his light into the rear of the trailer and immediately begins taking fire. Looking closely at the footage, between 0:35 and 0:36, you can see the suspect lean out from behind the closed trailer door. From the video audio, five shots can be heard, three of which struck Deputy Hutton.

Deputy Hutton, now critically wounded fled the area and radioed for backup. In the audio transactions between Hutton and dispatch, you can hear the suffering in his voice. It was later identified that Deputy Hutton was struck once in the lung, arm, and hand. While radioing for backup, the suspect, Tristin Ensinger fled the scene to a nearby field, where he then turned the weapon on himself. Ensinger was reported deceased at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Ensinger was reportedly running from law enforcement after he committed a homicide in Ohio, just two days prior. Since his death, Ensinger was identified as the primary suspect in the homicide.

Miraculously, Deputy Hutton survived his injuries. Due to the remote location on I-70, it took responding officers twenty-one minutes to arrive in support of Deputy Hutton. Life saving medical aid was provided to Deputy Hutton until medical transport arrived. Six days after the shooting, Deputy Hutton was sent home from the hospital and is still facing his long road to recovery.
