On July 4, 2021 in Toledo, Ohio, a block party turned into a warzone after multiple armed gunmen unloaded their firearms into the crowd of attendees.
At 12:24 a.m. on July 5, dispatch received a call that an armed man was firing shots into the air, and an estimated three-hundred people were fighting in the street. The footage provided shows a brief insight on the intense crime scene, as Toledo officers arrived.
What sounds like fireworks going off in the background are actually all gunshots. After investigating the area, Toledo Police Department launched an investigation of the scene. Over eighty expended bullet casings were retrieved from the crime scene. Toledo Police Chief George Kral noted, not a single responding officer fired a shot during this incident.
Among those wounded from the active shootout was 17-year-old Stephen Johnson, who was struck by multiple gunshots. Johnson was airlifted to a hospital in Ann Abor, Michigan, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Other additional victims; a nineteen, eighteen, two seventeen, two sixteen, a fifteen, and an eleven year old were injured during the incident. The latest reports have stated these individuals have made a full recovery form their injuries.
