Cossackgundi, a member of the Ukrainian Military and former YPG volunteer, is one of the Soldiers who was forced to surrender to Russian forces in Mariupol after they ran completely out of food and ammunition.

In a video that is already heading for the front-page of Reddit, Cossackgundi is seen reading a propaganda script that was handed to him by Russian forces. Throughout the script, there are errors in the translation to English from Russian. In order to show that he is reading the script under duress for his own safety, Cossackgundi purposely reads the spelling mistakes out-loud. This is a clear indicator that Johnny is reading the script under duress and out of fear for his own safety.

Posting this video here on Funker530 will do nothing to spread it further than Reddit already has. We can however offer a little bit of extra insight into the situation for our readers and users. One of the things you're trained to do when taken captive is to show that you are under duress if possible during any media interview. Famously, Jerimiah Denton, a pilot who was shot down over Vietnam and subsequently taken captive by Vietnamese forces, blinked T-O-R-T-U-R-E in Morse code during an interview to let friendly forces know that he was in danger and needed help. What Cossackgundi is doing in this video is very similar to that situation. He is holding up a big sign that says "I'm in danger," for anyone who is willing to read between the lines.

For those of you who don't know Johnny, he's a British-Ukrainian who volunteered with the YPG during the peak of the fight against the Islamic State. Later, he moved to Ukraine and joined the Ukrainian military under a three-year-long contract to make getting his Ukrainian citizenship easier. Currently, he is both a British and Ukrainian citizen being held captive by the Russians, and before their surrender he did not have the large cut seen on his forehead in this interview.

This is a very complex and complicated situation for Johnny especially. We hope that Russian forces will trade him back in a prisoner exchange, but it's currently unknown if that will happen. At this point, anything further that happens to Johnny should immediately be taken as a war crime by the Russian troops currently holding him captive as a Prisoner of War. He has already displayed that he is under duress and fearful for his life with this interview.
