In a cringe-inducing police body camera video fraught with bad judgement, a Knoxville County Deputy unintentionally shoots a fellow deputy while trying to shoot an attacking dog. The incident took place in Knoxville, Tennessee on Jul. 5, 2022.
According to the report, the officers were responding to a call when a pitbull came outside the residence and began attacking Deputy Lydia Driver. While the dog was on Driver, her partner Deputy Jordan Hurst opened fire on the dog with the obvious result of striking Driver.
Driver was put in intensive care and later released four days later. Hurst was put on administrative leave, as is department procedure for any officer involved shooting. The dog was taken to an animal shelter.
