The accompanying video shows four different recordings of Russian loiter munition strikes around the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv on Oct. 16 and 17, 2022.
Russia's kamikaze drone strikes didn't just focus on Kyiv. The Ukrainian military claims to have shot down Geran-2/Shahed-136 loitering munitions in Odesa, Mykolaiv, as well as areas in the eastern part of the country.
The Russians are relying heavily on their new shipment of Iranian Shahed-136 loiter munitions, which the Russians have dubbed the Geran-2. The drone design has been in use by Iran and Iranian proxies against targets in Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and are now in service of the Russian military.
In late August, Iran began delivering hundreds of Mohajer-6 and Shahed-series drones to the Russian military to be used in Ukraine. Russia sought out the Iranian defense industry to replenish their combat losses of observation drones and diminished fleet of organically-developed loiter munitions.
