China Launches 3 Spy Satellites Into Orbit

China reported the successful launch of a Long March-2C rocket system which put a group of three Yaogan-30 remote sensing satellites into orbit on Jun. 18, 2021.


In addition to the three spy satellites, the launch vehicle also carried a Tianqi-14 satellite for Chinese tech firm Beijing Guodian Gaoke Technogloy Co, Ltd. The launch took place at Xichang Satellite Launch Center, Sichuan Province, in southwest China.


The Yaogan-30 satellites will detect and intercept electromagnetic transmissions. The Long March series of rockets and launch vehicles have been in Chinese service for decades, and this launch marks the 375th launch for that family of rockets.
