Protests of Myanmar's (Burma) military coup have continued to escalate, and now the civilian death toll is rising as well, with around 30 dead being reported. Witness videos continue to circulate on social media, and one of them shows a family being fired upon in their own home by the Burmese security forces.
Many of the videos show the military forces using rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse crowds, however, these tools still have the potential to kill. New reports are suggesting the regime is now using live ammunition. Other videos have shown the troops singling out members of the press for arrest.
A military junta seized power in February, and a nation-wide strike by civilians ensued. Thousands protest daily, and the military seems to be significantly escalating the violence to solidify control.
