A Blackwater little bird participates in the evacuation of the Polish Ambassador Edward Pietrzy after he was seriously injured in an insurgent attack that took place on October 3rd, 2007.
Say what you want about Blackwater, but this video speaks volumes about the skill and professionalism of their little bird pilots in Iraq. First, it's no easy feat to land a little bird in the middle of a road where there are a bunch of different things that could disable your aircraft permanently. Take note of how the pilot comes down dead center in the road. He's dodging a number of light posts, telephone lines, and electrical wires that are hanging around the periphery of his rotary blades as he comes in. Second, he's doing all of that while there's an extremely high risk to the bird due to the insurgent threat in the area.
Keep in mind, this evacuation occurred shortly after an assassination attempt on Polish Ambassador Edward Pietrzy. The injured man received serious burns to 20% of his body, including his air passageways. After the evacuation, the injuries were so serious that Pietrzy was placed into a medical induced coma to help him deal with the pain of his injuries.
Now, keep in mind that the protection of Polish Ambassador Edward Pietrzy was not the responsibility of Blackwater, or Blackwater Contractors. This evacuation was done because the Polish Ambassador was an ally to the United States, and it was something that needed doing, and they got it done.
