Armenian troops film the launch of an OTR-21 Tochka-U ballistic missile toward Azeri positions during the 2020 war in Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as the Second Karabakh War.
The OTR-21 Tochka is a Soviet tactical ballistic missile, referred to as the SS-21Scarab by NATO. The missile is hauled and launched from a 9P129 vehicle using an inertial guidance system. Depending on the missile variant used, the Tochka can accurately engage targets up to 115 miles away. Typical targets include bridges, airfields, and enemy headquarters complexes.
The 2nd Karabakh War broke out in late 2020 when Azerbaijan entered into territory that is politically theirs, but was controlled by ethnic Armenian local governments. Azerbaijan's years of investments into advanced military hardware, including various unmanned aerial systems resulted in a short and brutal decisive victory over the Armenian military, which relied heavily on near-obsolete Cold War-era equipment and weaponry.
