This is a short but intense animation built by Veteran's Expedition Media. It tells the story of a mail clerk trapped in the middle of a massive firefight between Chinese Soldiers and American Marines in Korea.
Let me start this by first recommending the book The Last Stand of Fox Company. If you haven't read that book, by all means, you should head over to Amazon right now and pick it up on Kindle. If you're not one for reading, get the Audiobook on Audible. Do whatever you need to do, just make sure you consume the contents of that book so that you can fully grasp the terror of the Marines of Fox Company throughout their six day gun battle with the Chinese trying to break into the Chosin Reservoir.
That out of the way, this is an animated short that's full of symbolism. The Chinese Soldiers are portrayed as evil looking demonic creatures for a reason. That reason is everything is taken from the perspective of a mail clerk who was out delivering mail to Fox Company at the start of their six day firefight against Chinese Troops. That façade of evil is lifted briefly when an illumination round pops off in front of the mail clerk, revealing that the Chinese Soldier rushing towards him is also just a young terrified man in a foreign and incredibly cold country.
As a former Marine, I grew up hearing and reading the stories of the Korea Generation. The Marines who fought in the Pacific and Belleau Wood hold a dear place as well, but it's the Marines of Korea who really captured the essence of what it means to be a Marine for me. That's why I'm sharing this animated short, because it's an excuse to encourage everyone to read The Last Stand of Fox Company which is the book this animated short is about.
