Video recorded by some of the earliest members of the Free Syrian Army shows an ambush against an armored column of Syrian Arab Army troops. This footage was filmed in 2012, before the Assad Regime started releasing extremists from prison knowing that they would join the ranks of the FSA.
Believe it or not, there was once a point in time where the war in Syria was very binary. Towards the beginning of the conflict, there were clear cut good guys and an easily defined bad guy in Bashir al-Assad. This footage stems from that point in time when the good guys were a rag tag group of rebels comprised of defected Syrian Police and Soldiers who wished to overthrow an oppressive regime.
Unfortunately for the entire rest of the world however, it wasn't long after this that Assad pulled a 200 IQ move. Early on in the conflict he released thousands of imprisoned extremists from prison knowing that they themselves would integrate with the Free Syrian Army and begin radicalizing and splintering the organization into smaller extremist factions. This move made it not only morally difficult to support the FSA for other countries, but it also weakened the FSA significantly by causing the organization to lose it's original sole motivation of overthrowing the Assad regime.
If you watch this video from an objective point of view though, you can see the similarities between the early FSA and the current Anti-Junta factions operating in Myanmar, which I think is fairly interesting. Guerillas gonna Guerilla.
