On April 28, 2021 an armed man in his 30s was spotted exiting his car with a gun when a local resident went outside of his home to his car. At around 3 p.m., the Catonsville resident who spotted the suspect made a 911 call to provide law enforcement within the Baltimore area that an armed suspect was wondering around in his neighborhood.
Once officers from the Baltimore Police Department arrived, the perpetrator had fled the initial scene. The suspect car, a 2008 GMC Envoy SUV, was later found in the 500 block of Hurley Avenue in southwest Baltimore with the assistance of the BPD Aviation Unit. In the footage provided, a man wearing a maroon hoodie and wielding a black rifle can be seen exiting the SUV.
Upon exiting the vehicle, the suspect began raising the rifle at bystanders. Lucky for all involved, BPD officers had already been dispatched to the area and immediately began engaging the suspect before he could cause any harm.
As officers surround the suspect, he was shot multiple times. A group of responding officers can be seen from the body cam footage removing the firearm from the suspect and detaining him. After the suspect was detained, he was identified as 21-year-old Samuel Andrew Arnold. Arnold was rendered medical aid until medical transport arrived. He was labeled in critical condition, but ended up making a recovery in the hospital.
