2001 Ambush on Russian Armored Column by Chechen Fighters

Footage from an ambush that occurred near the Russian village of Vedeno captures Ibn al-Khattab and other Chechen fighters engaging in what is most likely part of the Battle of Vedeno.

On August 13, 2001, 25 Chechen rebels seized the village of Benoi-Yurt, conducted an attack on the local military station, and placed checkpoints on a strategic road that leads further south to the town of Vedeno. What followed was a week and a half long battle for the control of the village of Vedeno.

In total, 25 Chechen rebels shot down three Russian helicopters and killed over 40 Russian Soldiers from a force of over 700 Russian troops. At the conclusion, conflicting reports came out of the battle. Regardless of reports however, the battle is widely known as a victory for Chechen forces.
